CLIMATE AND MICROCLIMATE
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
The average temperature is higher than the majority of the UK, it is 10 to 11°C which is the same as south of the UK and many urban centres.
AVERAGE SUNSHINE
The average sunshine hours are higher than most of the North West region because of the flat, exposed coastline.
AVERAGE WIND SPEED
The average wind speed is higher along the coastline compared to low-lying inland areas due to the exposure to the prevailing South-Westerly wind. However, some shelter is provided from the Snowdonia mountain range.
AVERAGE RAINFALL
The average rainfall is relatively low for this area compared to the North-West region because the air is dry. Most rain falls as relief rainfall over the Pennines.
AVERAGE SLEET/SNOW
The average sleet/snow amount is low compared to some areas of the UK, this is because the air is drier compared to upland areas.
AVERAGE HUMIDITY
The average humidity is low compared to the UK due to the limited cloud formation in this area.
CLIMATE DATA FROM HAWARDEN CLIMATE STATION
The average temperature (10.05℃) is higher than Manchester (9.35℃) and lower than Liverpool (10.2℃).
The average rainfall amount (726.2mm) is lower than Manchester (867mm) and lower than Liverpool (836mm). This is due to the dry air and no relief rainfall.
The average wind speed Manchester (7kt) is smaller than Manchester (7.5kt) and lower than Liverpool (11.8kt), perhaps due to shelter, provided by the snowdonia mountain range, from the prevailaing wind.
MICROSCALE
It's an exposed, flat site with no trees to provide shelter from the wind, giving the feeling of a rural area. The temperature is colder than Liverpool because there is no urban heat island effect but higher than manchester due to shelter to the prevailing wind, provided by the Snowdonia moutain range.
